Hollis: Redressing the balance

Glow – a lawtech start-up aimed at organising collective redress cases – has raised £200,000 in funding and secured the former UK managing partner of Dentons as an investor and director.

The company, which is also one of eight finalists in the Legal Access Challenge, looks to simplify the process of bringing individuals and SMEs together on a platform for all parties involved in group litigation.

The seed round, raised from private business angels who have supported the founders in previous projects, will allow the company to create a minimum viable product and launch the platform later this year.

Georgina Hollis, co-founder of Duo Ventures, the company behind Glow, said its aim was “to redress the balance between organisations and individuals, by simplifying the litigation process and empowering victims to unite and be a powerful force.

“The platform will also give solicitors the tools they need to effectively manage cases and hold those at fault to account.”

Brandon Ransley is now a special adviser at Dentons and joins Glow as a non-executive director.

He said: “I see great potential for the platform to transform how we handle collective redress cases and significantly increase access to justice for the general public. This is the beginning of a very exciting journey.”

Glow received £50,000 to help develop its idea as one of the finalists in the Legal Access Challenge, which is being run in partnership by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and Nesta Challenges with government money.

Its goal is to broaden access to legal help for individuals and small businesses through technology and the two winners – set to be announced next month – will receive a further £50,000 each.

Ms Hollis said the initial award was “instrumental in financing the first few months of development and attracting further investment to the company”.

Last month, Glow was also named one of three start-ups in Pinsent Masons’ first legaltech accelerator.

The 10-week programme consists of workshops, networking events and mentoring sessions with Pinsent’s lawyers, cumulating in a national demo day to showcase its work and progress.
