Hale: Let opposition politicians help select top judges

She also suggested that, to improve judicial diversity, “traditional assumptions” about which type of lawyers get which sort of judicial job needed to be cast aside.

Bar Council warns of threat to judiciary from lack of diversity among QCs
Wednesday, 13 January 2016The senior judiciary “may not reflect the communities it seeks to serve” because of a lack of ethnic minority and female QCs, the Bar Council has warned. The success rate of ethnic minority barristers fell to 28% this year.

Lady Hale: “We should be ashamed” if Supreme Court does not become more diverse
Friday, 6 November 2015dy Hale, deputy president of the Supreme Court, has said that “we should be ashamed of ourselves” if the court was not more diverse by the end of 2018. She said women lawyers “owe it our sex” to apply to the most senior court.

Judiciary launches its own initiative to improve diversity of High Court judges
Thursday, 9 April 2015The Judicial Office has launched a pilot programme to improve the diversity of the High Court bench and encourage more applications from senior lawyers and legal academics. Places will be limited to women and those from BAME or “less advantaged social or educational” backgrounds
