Litigation funder Burford Capital has agreed to provide over £30m in litigation financing for a FTSE 20 company, in the first publicly announced deal of its kind. Burford said the deal addressed the need of “companies of all sizes” to avoid paying lawyers by the hour.

The pre-Jackson rush led the Medical Defence Union (MDU) to report a 20% surge in compensation claims in 2013 – what it has described as a “record year”. Claims against dentists rose by 10%.
