The president of the Supreme Court, Lord Neuberger, and Lord Dyson, the Master of the Rolls, will head a seven-judge panel for the eagerly awaited Coventry costs hearing on 9 February, it has been announced.

Andrew Parker, the former president of the Forum of Insurance Lawyers who was one of Lord Justice Jackson’s assessors, claimed this week that “despite the dire warnings”, the Jackson reforms have actually improved access to justice.

The Civil Procedure Rule Committee (CPRC) is to consider how part 36 can be reformed – to simplify it, allow offers by counterclaiming defendants and discourage “cynical” claimant offers.
