Lord Dyson, the Master of the Rolls and former Supreme Court justice, is to retire in October this year, the Judicial Communications Office has said. Lord Dyson strongly criticised the Ministry of Justice last month over the introduction of enhanced court fees.

The Master of the Rolls has called for an “institutional response” to unfair criticism of judges by politicians and the media. Lord Dyson said there were “a number of hazards” in judges responding personally.
